Who We Are.

The Knights of Columbus was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney, curate at St. Mary's parish in New Haven, Conn., the Knights of Columbus was chartered on March 29, 1882, in the State of Connecticut.

Father McGivney realized that if the Order was to survive, it would need a firm foundation in the form of a strong constitution, with laws and by-laws. The prudence of Father McGivney proves itself as much in the growth of the Order to nearly 1.7 million members since 1882 as in the fact that the laws of the society have served it well for over 123 years.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. The Knights provide members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

To Become A Member

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years of age.

A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church.

Application forms are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus. Any Catholic gentlemen that meet the above requirements and wish additional information, or that wish to become a member should leave their name and phone number with the Church Secretary, Mrs. Lucy Saini at the Parish office, 495-1501. A member of the membership committee will then contact you.

4th Degree:

Any Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.

While there are a number of Knights of Columbus Councils in North Bay, there is only one 4th Degree. The Albanel Assembly is made up of members from all of the local Councils.

Ideally, every Third Degree Knight should strive to become a member of the Fourth Degree. It is a place of honour and respect in our Community that its members will carry for the rest of their lives. Any Third Degree Knight that would like more information on how become a Fourth Degree Knight need only to approach any of the Fourth Degree Knights in our Council.
